Last week I did a Defining and Branding seminar for people who are searching for work. The people who hosted the seminar, Mark and Dottie from the Buffalo Niagara branch of Career Partners, tell me that most jobs are obtained through networking. The concept of defining and branding yourself like a business owner went over very well with these people. My book, Chief Life Officer, where I walk the reader through the process of treating their life like they are the Chief Life Officer of a business called Me, Inc. is very compatible with how Mark and Dottie teach their clients to consider their job search as a business. Creating and using a defining statement for yourself can be very inticing when talking to someone who wants to know what you do. Skip boring anyone with long drawn out descriptions of your career and cut right to the chase with a one sentence “catch them” pharase. Remember, all you want is for them to stop and ask questions. Then you can go into more detail.
